Claire Sarrasin

A painter and sculptor in a variety of media, Claire Sarrasin began her artistic career with studies at Montreal's Institut des arts appliquées in 1965 and 1965. Her career started with textile arts, including costumery for dramatic productions. She then took up painting on silk. Preoccupied with the preservation of her pieces, she turned to encasing them in acrylic, a technique that offered broad horizons of innovation and allowed her to move from two-dimensional painting to three-dimensional structure. From there she began to incorporate other materials besides painted silk in her sculptures. She lives and works in Calixa-Lavallée (Montérégie).
