CASH

To pay cash, give your payment to the cashier, who will give you a ticket. Use the ticket as indicated below. Exact change is not required.

TICKETS

Regular fare tickets can either be inserted into the slots in the front of turnstiles, or put into the slot on the cashier's booth. Reduced-fare tickets can only be used at the cashier's booth, and the reduced-fare ID card must be shown.

Tickets are available singly or in strips of six.

Cartier-De La Concorde-Montmorency ticket: The arrival of the Laval metro has brought a new fare. These tickets can be purchased singly at the three Laval stations for use there. They are also valid on STM buses and at other stations, thought they must be given to the changer as they will not work in automatic turnstiles. Likewise, single metro tickets bought at other stations are valid at the Laval stations but will not work in the turnstiles. Tickets bought in strips of 6 are not valid.

CAM (MONTHLY PASS)

The CAM (Carte Autobus-Métro) can be used for an unlimited number of trips in the month listed on its face. It is sold at metro ticket booths and convenience stores from the 25th of the previous month till the 5th of the current month, and throughout the month at metro Berri-UQAM. Cards which have become demagnetized can be replaced free of charge at metro Berri-UQAM, Côte-Vertu, Lionel-Groulx, and Jean-Talon.

To use the card, slide it through the card reader on the turnstile with the magnetic strip facing you. Note that the reduced-fare card must be used in conjunction with the reduced-fare ID card.

If you use a card to get through a metro turnstile, that same card cannot be used again at the same entrance for twenty minutes.

If necessary, for example in case of a demagnetized card, the card can be shown to the cashier to gain access.

Note that the CAM is not valid at the three Laval stations.

Carte Privilège: As of 1 January 2002, full-time students between 18 and 25 can use a reduced-fare CAM with the Carte Privilège ID issued by the STM. This pass is only valid for the monthly CAM, not with any other transit fare. Please see the STM's page on the Carte Privilège.

CAM HEBDO (WEEKLY PASS)

The CAM Hebdo is used like the monthly CAM. It is sold each week from Friday the previous week through Tuesday, and is valid from Monday through Sunday.

Note that the CAM Hebdo is not valid at the three Laval stations.

TOURIST PASSES

Tourist passes are an excellent way for visitors to get around the city of Montreal. They are sold for periods of one or three days. When you purchase your card, scratch off the day(s) and month for which you want to use your card. (In the case of a three-day card spanning two months, scratch off only the first month.)

Your card is good for an unlimited number of trips. To use it, show it to the cashier, who will let you through the turnstile.

For longer stays, you may wish to consider purchasing a CAM or CAM Hebdo (see above.)

Tourist passes are only available at Berri-UQAM, Bonaventure, and Peel stations during the winter. From April to October they are available at selected stations, especially ones downtown and near major tourist areas. For a complete list, please see the STM's web page on tourist passes.

FREE TRAVEL

Children under 6 accompanied by a fare-paying adult are allowed on the metro for free, upon request to the cashier.

A person with a visual or intellectual disability, along with one person assisting them, can also use the metro for free upon presentation of a Personal Aid Transit Pass. This pass is available free of charge, upon completion of a questionnaire available at CLSCs and rehabilitation centres. Further information is available at the STM's web page on personal aid transit passes. Users of the STM's Adapted Transport network can also use their passes the same way on the metro.

In case of an interruption of service or other difficulty, the cashier can issue a free courtesy ticket to passengers whose trips have been interrupted. This can be used in the same way as an ordinary ticket upon presentation to a cashier.

REDUCED FARE PASSES

Reduced-fare passes are necessary to use any of the reduced fares. Full-time students under 18 and seniors over 65 are eligible for such passes. As explained above, full-time students between 18 and 25 are eligible for reduced-fare CAMs. For more information, please see the STM's web pages on under-18 student passes, 18-25 student passes, and senior passes.

REGIONAL PASSES (TRAM)

Regional passes (TRAMs) are sold by the AMT and are valid in various parts of the metropolitan area of Montreal (zones). All TRAMs are valid in their zone and in zones with a lower number. The metro and STM bus lines are within zone 1, so any TRAM may be used on the metro and STM buses. For more information, see the TRAM page on the AMT website (in French).
