A key figure in Quebec sculpture, Yves Trudeau studied at the École des beaux-arts de Montréal. Beginning his career in the 1950s in bronze, and later moving on to steel and wood, in 1960 he founded the Association des sculpteurs du Québec (now the Conseil de la sculpture du Québec). He has participated in numerous exhibitions in Canada and throughout Europe. He is a member of the Order of Canada and the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. He has now retired from teaching at UQAM.
