Le Pélican

This large mural sculpture represents Le Pélican, the ship commanded by French explorer Pierre Le Moyne D'Iberville, who gave his name to this station.

The artist first prepared several sketches of the ship, but decided to submit another version inspired by the technique of "drip art." To create the final version, he sculpted the work in styrofoam, then packed it in a mould of sand. Molten aluminum was then poured into the mould, vaporizing the styrofoam. The project, which involved the production of 15 pieces of up to 400 kg each, allowed a nearly bankrupt aluminum factory to reopen its doors.

The work includes a lighting system that simulates the movements of the sun through the day.
