Maurice Savoie is one of Canada's most prominent ceramists, known for his technical mastery and constant reinvention of the art. Savoie studied at the École du meuble de Montréal and the École des beaux-arts de Montréal starting in 1948; he would perfect his art at studios in famed ceramic centres such as Faenza, Rome, and Limoges. He came to prominence in the 1960s, producing works for the Quebec Pavilion at Expo 67.

His works, frequently inspired by mythology and magic, have been featured in over 100 shows in Canada, the Czech Republic, the US, and the UK, and his work is included in the collections of such Canadian museums as the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, Library and Archives Canada, the National Gallery of Canada, and the Canadian Museum of Civilization.

Savoie is a member of the Royal Academy of Arts and has been awarded the Order of Canada, the Prix Paul-Émile-Borduas, and the Saidye Bronfman Award for Excellence in the Fine Crafts. He works in Longueuil.
