Gilbert Poissant

Mural by Gilbert Poissant, mezzanine of Outremont station Mural, 1986
Ceramic tiles
Two elements, height 4 m × width 3,68 m and 8,62 m

Location: Outremont metro station, mezzanine

This tiled mural, integrated into the tiled wall of the station's mezzanine, recalls the characteristic shapes of the architecture in Outremont, both residences and public buildings.

The artist was chosen, among other reasons, because his young age harmonized with the young architectural team. The creation of the mural represented an arduous learning experience, including the creation of the 1,436 different glazes used in it.

"I didn't reproduce a specific building; I blended them all together and made a personal interpretation of them. It's a mural in several sections appearing here and there along the wall, beginning nowhere and ending in nothing. It is a total integration of art and architecture. I didn't study the other public artworks in the other stations in the network, because when I create a work of public art, I try as much as possible to be inspired by the location served and the materials used on the site."
